10 Ways to Have Better Ideas (That I Actually Use)

CREATIVITY10/10 Ways to Have Better Ideas

People think ideas are weather — you wait for them. After four years of campaigns and daily content, I'm convinced ideas are plumbing: build the pipes and they flow. These are my ten pipes. None of them is "be more talented".

The 10 habits
01Swipe fileSave every ad/post that stops you
02Steal across industriesYour niche is out of fresh angles
03Add a constraint"Only one word" beats "anything"
04Reverse the briefHow would we guarantee failure?
05Mine the commentsCustomers phrase it better
06Walk, no phoneThe brain files ideas offline
07Combine two old ideasNew = familiar × familiar
08Quantity quota20 bad ones to find 1 good one
09Talk to one customerReal pain beats brainstorms
10Sleep on itLet the night shift work

The three that matter most

The swipe file is the highest-leverage habit on this list. Every ad, hook or post that makes you stop scrolling goes in a folder with one note: why it worked. Within a month you're never starting from a blank page — you're remixing proven structures with your own material.

Stealing across industries is where originality actually comes from. A fitness creator's hook structure works for recruitment. A plumber's before/after format works for SEO case studies. Your competitors are all copying each other; the fresh angle is always one industry over.

The quantity quota kills perfectionism. When I need a campaign angle, I force twenty headlines before judging any of them. Ideas 1–7 are obvious, 8–15 are weird, and the winner usually hides around 16. Judging while generating is how both die.

Ideas are inventory

Capture everything the day it arrives — a notes app, a voice memo, anything. An idea you don't write down is a donation to your forgetfulness. I keep a running list so content days start with "which one today?" instead of "what on earth do I post?"

Ideas are step one — systems are step two.

I turn ideas into campaigns and automations that book calls. If your marketing needs both, book a free audit.
